Presentations by those who are recovering from mental health conditions are designed to raise awareness and reduce stigma by providing a dialogue on the issues related to recovery from severe mental health conditions.

In Our Own Voice: Living with mental health conditions is a recovery education presentation given by trained clients presenters for other consumers, family members, friends, professionals, and lay audiences.

A brief, yet comprehensive interactive presentation about mental health conditions--including a DVD portraying clients with different mental health conditions, personal testimony, and discussion--enriches the audience's understanding of how people with these serious disorders cope with the reality of their illnesses while recovering and reclaiming productive lives.


In Our Own Voice: Living with mental health conditions is a practical tool to educate and increase awareness about the true nature of brain disorders, commonly known as mental health conditionses. The presentation covers issues frequently faced by those dealing with severe mental health conditionses:

In Our Own Voice: Living with mental health conditions is a unique presentation that offers insight into the hope and recovery now possible for people with severe mental health conditions--presented by people who have been there.

What makes this program unique is the human face it puts on mental health conditions. Hear from people who have struggled themselves with disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, and other severe mental health conditionses. They invite you into discusssion as they share their personal experiences.

In Our Own Voice: Living with mental health conditions shatters stereotypes about people with severe mental health conditionses. Learn from men and women whose lives were interrupted by illness, but who are now role models for hope and recovery.

NAMI will help you schedule an In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness Presentation.

A NAMI coordinator will meet with you to discuss your needs and to arrange a presentation at a time and location convenient for your group. You provide the audience and NAMI will provide the trained presenters. Our only requirement is a DVD player or a computer and a projector. Audience size varies. Ideally, the program runs from 60 to 90 minutes to allow for ample discussion time.
