    Pro bono legal services to low-income persons and seniors. Legal Aid provides a service called Health Consumer Action Center.
    They provide information about health care option and rights, advice on how to pursue appeals and grievances and individual representation at state administrative hearings. Information and assistance includes the following health programs: Medi-Cal, CALOptima, Healthy Families, County Medical Services for Indigents (MSI) and Mental Health Care.

    Patients’ Rights Advocacy Services is part of a state-mandated patients’ rights advocacy system made up of three parts:
    • The county patients' rights advocates, known as Patients’ Rights Advocacy Services in Orange County
    • The state hospital patients’ rights advocates, and the State Office of Patients Rights.
    • In addition to the patients’ rights advocacy system, California has a federally mandated program, Protection and Advocacy, Inc. (PAI), which provides legal protection and advocacy services to Californians identified as mentally ill who are or have been residents of facilities providing treatment or care.
