LIBRARY MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of the NAMI Orange County Library is to establish and maintain a diverse collection of literature and media materials in order to serve as a resource for current information and research on mental illness and mental health. The Library aims to provide materials suited for the layperson interested in learning more on these topics. In conjunction with the Library’s parent organization -- National Alliance on Mental Illness, the NAMIOC Library wishes to support a life of quality and dignity for all those persons affected by mental illness, as well as to assist in educating those persons diagnosed with a mental illness and their families, through the provision of educational materials such as books, periodicals, and videos.
PLEASE COME AND VISIT US!
Volunteers staff the Library one day each week, and since we operate on a self-checkout basis, you may visit us any time the office is open. A Classification Chart, Library Catalog, posted instructions, and staff are available to assist you in your use of the NAMIOC Library.
Our growing collection, maintained by volunteer staff, consists of over 700 items, including books, videos, DVDs, and periodicals, which primarily pertain to issues related to mental illness. Please come and make yourself comfortable in our reading area, or view a video at our video desk.
The NAMIOC Library is open to the general public, and almost all of the Library’s materials are available for checkout for a two-week loan period.
It is our hope that you will benefit from reading and viewing the materials you take home, and that you will better understand and perhaps learn ways of coping with the challenges of living with mental illness on a daily basis.
